Simply Smiles: Our Mission to Mexico

On March 7, 2009, Eighteen members from Immanuel Church left for Oaxaca, Mexico to ‘build a house’ for a family sponsored by Simply Smiles and to work with the children of Casa Hogar. We made the journey imagining, but truly unaware of, the powerful experience we would have. We went to change lives and indeed our lives were changed.

Immanuel Congregational Church, and Iglesia Cristiana Nueva Esperanza (“New Hope Christian Church”), formerly of East Hartford, have joined forces under Immanuel’s roof to help meet the spiritual needs of Greater Hartford’s growing Hispanic community and to strengthen ties between groups who often don’t have a chance for meaningful interaction. We are delighted that you found your way to the website of Immanuel Congregational Church, United Church of Christ! Our hope is that this introduction to Immanuel will inspire you to worship with us on Sunday morning at 10am (9:30am in July & August). In our glorious sanctuary you will find a warm welcome, inspiring and provocative worship and the opportunity to be centered in the life and joy of God.

As you explore Immanuel through our website, we invite you to experience the basic ways in which we seek to grow in faith: through worship, education, mission, fellowship, stewardship and membership. These sections of the website are devoted to each of these dimensions of our life, and you will be able to read the stories of people whose lives have been changed by these experiences of ministry.

You can also explore the sacred scriptures of our tradition through our weekly e-votional section Fresh Faith . Every week we will post a meditation on one or more of the texts that will be read during our service of worship on the following Sunday. During the week following that service you can download the podcast of the message that was preached on these same texts, or listen online to the streaming audio file.

Our hope for Fresh Faith is that you will encounter the hopes and dreams of God through our meditation on the stories of faith that have been handed down to us. We encourage you to ponder the texts on your own or with others, as you seek to discern the vision of God for such a time as this.

May Fresh Faith be a source of nourishment and inspiration as you seek to live with grace in the name of God: the creator, redeemer and sustainer of all life.
