Bible Study Group: the Book of Daniel

  • Immanuel Congregational Church, UCC 10 Woodland Street Hartford, CT, 06105 United States (map)

The Bible Study Group will begin reading a new book, the Book of Daniel, from the Hebrew Bible.

On April 21 the Bible Study group will begin reading the Book of Daniel from the Hebrew Bible. This book is split into two distinct halves. Chapters 1-6 are a collection of folktales about Jews who remain faithful to Yahweh during the Babylonian exile, illustrating how Jews may survive and thrive in a foreign land. Chapters 7-12 comprise a series of apocalyptic visions, as recounted by Daniel, that foresee events until the reign of the idolatrous king Antiochus Epiphanes in the 2nd century BCE. Hope is thus provided for Jews resisting persecution. Chapter 7 would prove especially influential for Christianity, with its idea of the coming "son of man." This Bible study will end on May 19.

The Bible Study will be led by Dan Kueper, who has a Master’s degree in Theological Studies. It will take place very Sunday, starting March 24th. Bible Study discussion is always spirited, with no question off-limits! Contact the Church Office, immanuel06105@gmail.com, or Dan at dkueper.ia@gmail.com to find out more!
