Visual Art at Immanuel

The creative force of God has provided a marvelous diversity of gifts and callings in the arts. We are the heirs of the Biblical inheritance of art, of the god who created form out of chaos and who put life and breath into the dust of the earth. David danced before the ark of the covenant and sang songs of faith. Miriam sang songs of joy and Lydia was a weaver of purple goods. Jesus drew pictures through the use of the parables and raised the common elements of our lives to a symbolic and use.

At Immanuel the arts play an essential role in the nurture of spiritual life:
We believe that the arts
are a prophetic and healing channel for the mediation of God's truth and grace;
touch us deeply and can lead to a transforming religious experience;
open us to new meaning in personal relationships, in communal life and in political activities
and give us insight and energy to act with love and justice.
