Out of Order by the British filmmaker Amanda Bluegrass focuses on five LGBT seminarians hoping to follow their call and become ministers in the Presbyterian Church (USA) at a time when the denomination prohibited LGBT candidates from ordination. This is a story that goes far beyond any one denomination, and the Connecticut screening is sponsored by an ecumenical network of churches and groups.
Filmed beautifully, Out of Order is the story of personal courage and persistence confronting organizational misunderstanding, fear, and bigotry. It shows the cost of faithfulness. It is also the story of faith prevailing. Here is a link for more information: http://www.outoforderdoc.com/about/#synopsis. Alex McNeill, Executive Director of More Light Presbyterians and one of the subjects of Out of Order, will be present to engage in conversation about the film and his experiences as a transgender person of faith.
The screening will take place on Sunday, April 2nd, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2080 Boulevard, West Hartford, CT. Doors open at 2:45pm and the screening starts at 3pm. A reception will follow the showing. We will finish early enough so you can be home to see UCONN Women’s Basketball!
