Feeding the Poor

Walk Against Hunger

Each year, Immanuel members participate in the Walk Against Hunger. The Walk is the largest anti-hunger fundraising event in Connecticut to benefit local families and children in need of food.

Hunger is a serious problem in our community. Over 128,000 people, including 50,000 children and more than 10,000 seniors, need emergency food assistance in greater Hartford each year. For every $30 we raise for the Walk, Foodshare can distribute a month’s worth of food for a hungry neighbor. That translates to about $1/day!

In 2014, over 30 people from Immanuel walked with more than 5000 others to raise over $600,000 for Foodshare! The Immanuel contingent was an intergenerational group – age 1 to 70. In our green iridescent Immanuel T-Shirts, we were proud to say “Putting Love into Action.” And, over the last three years, Immanuel has contributed over $25,000 to Foodshare’s distribution to Loaves and Fishes, located at Immanuel.

Turkey + $30

At Thanksgiving time, Immanuel supports Foodshare’s Turkey + $30 campaign. Last year we provided over 50 Thanksgiving dinners for our neighbors in need.
