May is here, and it is time to set out our No Mow May signs. This movement, which aims at increasing the number of thriving bee species, began in the UK and was taken up by the city of Atherton, Wisconsin in 2019. Since then, it has spread widely in both the U.S. and Europe. Studies have shown that No Mow May lawns allow for a threefold increase in bee species and a fivefold increase in bee numbers.
Immanuel adopted a No Mow May policy in 2023 through the efforts of the Environmental Action Team. We look forward to its continued implementation each Spring. And hope that we, as individuals, can take the same bee-protective action with our individual lawns.
